Description
A mountain chickadee returns to the nest, pausing to show off the juicy bug she is delivering to her babies. Chickadees breed monogamously, producing 1 to 2 broods per year. The young are altricial, and stay in the nest for 21 days while being fed by both parents. Their primary diet is insects during the summer and breeding season.
I took this photo at Spooner Lake, on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe.
