Artist's Description
Mt Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48, is viewed from the wide-angle shot of the Mobius Arch in the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine California.
From Sierra Nevada site: The Alabama Hills have become a popular setting for many movies and numerous commercials. The Alabama Hills Natural Arch is easily accessed via a drive down the famous Movie Road that intersects with Whitney Portal Road about 3 miles west of Lone Pine. Following a sharp turn to the east, the Alabama Hills Stewardship Partnership has placed a small sign and constructed an easy-to-follow trail to the arch. With Mt. Whitney visible through the arch, this spectacular natural landmark provides a picture-perfect setting in a tumbled landscape.
About Janis Knight
Janis Knight has called Northern Nevada home for 50 years. During childhood, every summer was filled with trips to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains where she fell in love with the beauty, wildness and open spaces of the Great Basin. While art came naturally, it was her first Nikon SLR in 1982 that really ignited the passion for photography. A background in drawing and painting helped her develop her style using elements of composition and light. She began displaying photos in the Tri-county fair in Northern Nevada, often winning best of show and superior ribbons, and her photos hung in businesses around town. Finally, in 2001, she was able to attend University of Nevada, Reno, where she studied black and white film photography...

Janis, this is a beautiful image juxtaposing the Mobius Arch in the foreground on snow-capped Mt. Whitney in the background. The rich colors and the textures are exciting!
Janis Knight replied:
thank you Morris. this is a perfect time of year to photograph the Alabama Hills--before the sun get high and there is still snow on Mt Whitney.
