A snowy December morning at Davis Lake, at Davis Creek Park in Washoe County, Nevada. From About.com: Davis Creek Regional Park, 20 miles south of Reno in Washoe Valley, offers a variety of recreational opportunities. There is a campground with 62 overnight sites, hiking and nature trails, biking and equestrian access, shady picnic areas, group camping and day use areas that can be reserved, a small fishing lake, and great views of Washoe Lake and Slide Mountain. The park is in a stand of Jeffrey pines, right at the transition zone between where the open Great Basin desert ends and the Sierra Nevada forest begins.

Janis Knight has called Northern Nevada home for 50 years. During childhood, every summer was filled with trips to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains where she fell in love with the beauty, wildness and open spaces of the Great Basin. While art came naturally, it was her first Nikon SLR in 1982 that really ignited the passion for photography. A background in drawing and painting helped her develop her style using elements of composition and light. She began displaying photos in the Tri-county fair in Northern Nevada, often winning best of show and superior ribbons, and her photos hung in businesses around town.
